IfcAnnotation

What is IfcAnnotation?

IfcAnnotation represents non-physical markup elements used for documentation purposes, such as dimension lines, text labels, symbols, hatching, and survey points. Annotations do not represent real building components — they provide supplementary information for reading and interpreting the model.

Real-World Usage

Annotations are primarily used in 2D drawing generation from BIM models. While they appear in IFC files exported with drawing views, they are typically filtered out when working with 3D model data in viewers and analysis tools.
